8" x 10" oil on gessoed hardboard

A hayfield in North Carolina. It was tricky painting an overcast day, because I have a tendency to want my colors very bright and saturated. At least there were some cast shadows despite the clouds.

Farm Road

5" x 7" oil on gessoed hardboard

Farm road in Granville County, NC.

I painted this with a palette knife. It really helped me block in colors and shapes instead of getting hung up on details - you can only get so detailed with a knife on 5x7.
