The Conversation
8" x 10" oil on panel

February's Virtual Paintout location is Bangladesh. I was intrigued by this scene of the men talking on the street - what is the conversation about?
I tried a different approach on this painting. The scene wasn't very colorful, and I started out painting in greyscale, then adding color. Not sure what I think about this technique...
The initial sketch. I happened to have a board primed with this warm, orangey color, so I thought it would help liven up the tones. |
Putting in the lightest lights and darkest darks. I'm using acrylics at this point because they dry quickly. |
Three intermediate values. |
Then a wash of Indian yellow on the light areas and Permanent violet on the shadows (now I'm using oil paints). |
Starting to put in color. Sorry about the glare on the painting. |
Just about done. I'm going to work on Beard Guy's face a little more. |

Great composition. So many diverging perspectives, well executed. Buena!
