Get Ready

6x6 oil on board

This was really a challenge - everything is in the shade except for a few bits of sunlight sneaking in.

I learned a method from Carol Marine about where to start - instead of working background to foreground or dark to light, she first paints the "vulnerable" areas: the colors that will lose their impact if they are muddied by the surrounding color. So I started with that sunlit spot on the wall and the bright parts of the chair. I think it made a big difference; I'd never get the fresh color if I was painting on top of an underpainting.

  1. I love the painting you did of a very relaxing looking spot. I did't know that Carol Marine trick (she's got quite a few) but it really zings here. Nice one.

I love to read your comments - thanks for your feedback!
