Airlie Fountain
8"x6"
oil on hardboard
You can view and bid on this painting here.
Airlie Gardens is a ridiculously gorgeous setting in Wilmington, NC. This fountain is at the end of a shaded pergola. It was pretty challenging to paint—the scene was in dappled light, and the fountain itself is made of multi-colored stone. And it's always a pain in the neck painting a symmetrical, geometric shape. No matter how accurate my sketch, it ends up lopsided!
Putting in the shadows on a pink ground. |
Adding the sunlit areas and making revisions to the shadows. |
Breaking up the shapes with details and adjustments, and revising my revisions :-) |
The fun part - painting in the splashing water. |
